Assisting them during change

There are many teens and pre-teens that find this transition between childhood and adulthood to be the toughest in terms of self-esteem and social acceptance.  However, our encouragement to our children is pivotal to them having a healthy view of themselves and being ready and confident amidst their peers.  Everyone, and by this we mean every person, goes through periods of doubt and confusion, but this adolescence season can be a time where our youth find even more of God's plan and power to be confident, as well as a powerful encouragement to those around them!  Be patient, encouraging, supportive and intentional!

Many books on the subject...

On the subject of adolescence, there is surely no shortage of reading material. With this in mind, the video above is a great place to start. In addition, this book written by Dr. James Dobson is quality information directed primarily to your child. Preparing for Adolescence: How to Survive the Coming Years of Change is age-appropriate and directly written from a Biblical perspective to the student about physical changes to come, emotional and maturity issues that accompany these changes, and themes that direct the student to make the most of this season by being a source of encouragement to those around them; this resource is a great help to parents and children alike. There are many other quality resources, too many to highlight here, but taking the initiative to be empowered in this area is extremely important with this powerful season of our child's life.

Note: many a parent have found this content to be helpful in having 'the talk' with their preadolescent child, as it gives a bigger framework from which to place subject matter than many parents feel ill-equipped to discuss with their child. This does not have to be the case. Pray, take a deep breath, and be informed and prepared!
